Web site is gone after trying to update with FileZilla!

#1 Post by jen4jazz » 2017-09-03 06:07

I am reasonably knowledgeable with computer stuff but admit I'm fairly clueless regarding HTML, ftp, and all other web page building stuff. However, I did successfully use FileZilla to update my website several months ago so have no idea what's happened this time. At first I dragged the files over to the remote site but the updates weren't appearing on my site. So then I tried deleting most of it and then re-adding the files, but now my site doesn't show up at all! Please someone help! If it helps I've attached a screenshot of how the program currently appears...

Did you accidentally delete your public root folder? Each website hosting company has a different public root folder. For example, on HostGator and other cPanel websites, it is /public_html. On DreamHost, it is /home/(accountname)/(website.com)

Anyway, perhaps google what the public root folder of your website should be for your hosting company, then remake it, then drag and drop your website into there.

Some hosters do not use such a directory at all. The website files would go into the / directory, in that case.
