I use filezilla as my ftp agent. I edit a file locally and double-check it by saving and reopening the edit and also by opening the file itself. The edits are there. But when I upload it to the server panel and try to open it on the web, I get a 404 error message. The modified file is on the server with the date and hour that I uploaded it. I open other files on the web in the same directory and they are shown. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Most probably, you didn't upload to the right document root folder on the server. When you access the file using the browser, the path is relative to the root directory of the website. Just a guess, but that sometimes happens.
