404 Not Found Error

I'm pretty new to FileZilla and web design in general. I'm using FileZilla to create a webpage for class, but the webpage continuously brings up a 404 Not Found error every time I try to access it. The index.html file is in the public_html folder, all lowercase, file transfer successful. Any ideas about what I may be doing wrong/how to fix it?

Maybe the webserver has been configured to use a different filename for the index document? Try dropping the trailing l.

Another possible name is default.html (or default.htm).

My Question is somehow related to this question. That's why i choose this to post my query under this instead of creating new topic. So, the question is I'm not getting 404 errors for the articles. Rather the backlinks for my website are giving 404 errors. I'm worried that where I'm doing mistake for getting this result. Need the expert recommendations.

Need the expert recommendations.
They aren't here. We are an FTP forum. You need to ask in an HTTP community.

See that the index.html file is indeed in the root directory of your website with correct permissions after that check URL and domain settings and confirm servers default document settings and clear your browser cache or try accessing the page with a different browser.
