How Do I Connect to Filezilla?

I do not know my server address, port, or administration password or this thing is just messed up.

I went to run > cmd and typed in ipconfig and I put in what my ip address was for the server address, then I put 21, and for the administration password I put admin because that is the password for my router and I cannot log in.

I even opened ports 20 and 21 on my computer.

I am using Windows XP

Some help would be highly appreciated so I can use Wordpress.

You can not connect to Filezilla (As you posted into the Client forum, I assume you mean Filezilla Client).

If you want to connect to Filezilla Server, however, you have to create at least one user. Without users it's not possible to connect.

Then:
hostname: IP address of the server computer. Internal IP if you test from the same network, external IP if you test from outside.
username: the user you just created
password: password of this user
for the administration password I put admin because that is the password for my router and I cannot log in
Filezilla products have nothing to do with your router, they will never ever use passwords from it.
I even opened ports 20 and 21 on my computer.
That's not enough, you need to do more. Read Network Configuration.

Thanks for the fast reply.

I am not sure which IP address I am supposed to use. Do I use my Internet IP Address or my LAN IP Address?

I also freed up port 22 on my firewall.

I read that Network Configuration so many times and I cannot figure out what else I am supposed to do. It is very hard for the average person to figure out how to use this FTP program. There needs to be like a newbie guide for this. I even Googled so many different phrases and none of them really tell you how to get this "username and password" and ip address. Because I read some articles and videos saying that you use "example.com" as your server address which i now know is wrong.

So how do I make a username and password and which IP Address do I use?

Thanks in advance.

So, which scenario are you in?

Scenario 1: You installed Filezilla Server on your home PC and want to connect to it.
Scenario 2: You want to use Filezilla Client to connect to a FTP server on the Internet.

For the client, there is a guide: Using

I want to be able to host plug-ins and widgets from Wordpress so I can use them on my blog. And that using the quick connect doesn't really help. How do I get one of those sftp or ftp websites or whatever it is talking about.

Which IP address do I use and where do I get the username and password from?

But the blog is not on your home PC, right? You should have received the neccessary login data when you signed up.

I have a username and password on Wordpress. And I just signed up for a free account on Wordpress. I don't host it.

I just need to know what to fill in for this... (pic)

Well, if you have an account on an external server, you downloaded the wrong program. To access the server on the Internet, you need Filezilla Client.

The server is only to host files on your own PC.
