sftp to z/os SSH v2 server How can I view MVS datasets

#1 Post by fzappa » 2009-03-10 22:09

Connecting to z/OS SSH v 2 compliant server running under z/OS 1.9 and cannot view MVS datasets. I can see the USS side fine. I tried to enter ////HLQ ///.HLQ and so on and not sucessful. Any help would be appreciated.

You cannot switch between mutually exclusive path syntaxes. FileZilla uses whatever the server advertises when connecting. You can force a different type using the site manager, but if it's not what the server uses by default, strange things can happen.

Just get a proper server that supports TVFS as defined in RFC 3659.

I can't find the solution of this old problem.
what is the syntax to start a connection from windows to z/os sftp Session with the remote Directory?
I tried different posability nothing works (//HLQ; ///HLQ; //'HLQ.' ;///'HLQ.' )
could you give me information which one or which unkown systax should work?

Did you set the "Server type" to "MVS, OS/390, z/OS" on the Advanced tab in the Site Manager, already?

yes I set the "Server type" to "MVS, OS/390, z/OS"
by the way I was able to use sftp on winscp (PSFTP) with the same connection as filezilla and it works fine with mvs dataset and sftp protokol.

if I use the same connection with FTP or FTPS and get access to the MVS-Dataset it works also fine. My only problem is the customer like to work in future only with sftp.

Try upgrading to a more modern SFTP server that uses the traditional Unix-style path syntax instead of some proprietary and legacy IBM syntax.

I know this is old, but if you are using IBM's OpenSSH only you can't access MVS files. It does not support that, at least not as of "now."

Dovetailed Technologies does provide software that will run on z/OS and when used in conjunction with IBM's OpenSSH server will provide access to MVS files.

If running Dovetailed Technologies software is not allowed, then the only solution I know of would be to copy the files from the MVS file to OMVS.
