File synchronization isn't even implemented yet.
Much of the heat in this debate comes from confusing and incorrect use of the terminology. (If in doubt always use the terms used by FileZilla).
Well, we aren't FTP specialists, just users...
For example users claiming FileZilla uploads an edited file into the wrong directory, that's simply not true. The problem is that they are (mis-)using that feature in the wrong way.
Well, the directory is technically right, but still wrong, because the file didn't go where the user wanted it to go.
And Filezilla is all about getting files there where the users want them, right?
I already posted about what happened to me - I have several sites that use similar files, so I would download one from one location, then edit it and then follows a wild sequence of up and downloading from approx 10 different servers and wild edits, while the server directory is different from the local directory in which I am aditing the file. Sometimes I also push local files around.
It is natural that Filezilla cannot read my mind and therefore cannot make good proposals of locations to upload the file to.
Quite often users blame the software if it doesn't do things the way they want, yet fail to acknowledge current behavior and are unable to describe what exactly they want.
I worked quite some time as a business analyst.
Users will describe the things in a way that's clear for them, and most of the time, it is also clear for their colleagues, yet developers would not understand what the users are saying.
The other way around, users won't understand what the developer is saying.
I for example didn't have trouble understanding what my "colleagues" posted earlier in this thread, but it seems I had also trouble finding the right words to explain what we want.
But finally it seems like I had a lucky strike:
i.e. stop tracking which files are being edited and detecting if files have changed?
I'm already working on this. I just enjoy arguing so much that I didn't mention it yet.
So, I'm happy we got over that now, and I am patiently awaiting for the release of that cool feature.
