Solution: D-Link EBR-2310 Broadband Router failures

#1 Post by adiant » 2009-05-20 01:53

Running FileZilla in Passive Mode with multiple Transfers enabled (Edit-Settings-Transfers-Maximum simultaneous transfers=more than one) causes the D-Link EBR-2310 Rev B Broadband Router to repeatedly drop and automatically restart the Internet connection for all applications on the same computer. D-Link Support does not have a solution for this problem.

If you have Revision B -- check the white label on the bottom of the router: "H/W Ver.:B1" is Revision B -- and are still within your one year warranty period, contact D-Link Support and ask them to advance RMA you a Revision A of EBR-2310; they will need your credit card to pre-ship the replacement. But, be warned: you'll probably spend an hour on the telephone before you finally are connected with a Product Specialist (Customer Service and Senior Tech. are the lower layers you have to go through first) who can actually do something for you. Admittedly, their service might improve if this problem is reported more frequently to them.

To test for this problem (it may also exist on other routers): set Maximum simultaneous transfers to NO MORE than one less than the maximum number of simultaneous FTP connections from the same IP address that your FTP site allows. Most, including mine, allow 8, so I set it to 7. Then start a transfer that will require at least 15 minutes to complete. If it completes successfully, without hanging for more than 15 seconds at a time, reverse the process -- i.e. - be sure to test both uploads and downloads.

I should also mention that I opened up ports on the internal firewall within Rev. B of the EBR-2310, as recommended in the FileZilla on-line documentation, and changed two other settings suggested by a D-Link Senior Tech. Nothing helped.

To the best of my knowledge, Rev. A is not available New from any retailer. Rev. B has been the only version sold for at least a year now.
