I am on here because i am wracking my brain out trying to get filezilla to work properly

I have a website hosted via hostgator. I downloaded and installed filezilla client. I extracted a server details document from hostgator and imported it to filezilla. Everything seems to connect ok at this point.
I can see folders from my own computer down the left hand side no problem. then there is 2 boxes on the right hand side. When i try and transfer a file into the second box i get the following message - 553 cant open that file: permission denied - critical file transfer error.
The box that wont allow me to transfer into has 2 folders names - .. and pub. I really hope this makes sense.

Looks like you don't have permissions to upload files. Please contact your server administrator for assistance.
