File Pauses After every upload

#1 Post by [AS] » 2011-07-24 20:58

Hey fellas, this problem only started recently and it's getting quite annoying, basically when i start an upload, as i'm doing right now, every upload pauses at 100% for over an hour, which makes uploading files take forever, especially if you are uploading 50-80 files..

That's a picture of it, the file reaches 100% however stays frozen on that one for sometimes over 2 hours.

What can i do to resolve this?

Thanks in advance fellas.

What is your timeout setting (in FileZilla)?

When a transfer is complete, the FTP client sends a completion notification to the server (FIN). It then waits for an acknowledgement coming back (ACK) before finally closing the connection. In your case, either the FIN never reaches the server, or the response ACK doesn't make it back (blocked/filtered by a firewall). So the connection remains up until timeout. With a large timeout setting (or even 0), it essentially waits very long/forever for a reply that never arrives.

Timeout zero means: Blocking. It essentially waits forever (or until external forces cut the connection). Is you set it to, say, 20 seconds (the default), it would consider the connection stalled after no activity for 20 seconds and retry.

While having a realistic timeout will make it fail much sooner (and speed the process up), you must make sure FileZilla can communicate freely through every firewall. If FIN and ACK can be sent and received correctly, transfers will flow very fast.
