FZ from 2.2.20 not working on Win95

#1 Post by Bruder_M » 2006-06-03 16:32

Hi,

I´ve been using the 2.2.18 on my ancient laptop with Win95. It worked very good. Now I´ve uptated to 2.2.24a and the programm doesn´t work.
Tested the versions between and found out, that from 2.2.20 on it won´t work.
I get the error-message that the FILEZILLA.EXE is linked with the missing Export-USER32.dll:EndMenu
What does this mean? Can this be fixed in one of the next versions? Please keep FileZilla to be compatible to older systems.
Thanks.

Greetings, Mark

Latest FZ client won't run on Win9x systems anymore, mostly due to unicode support and the fact that Win9x is just too old to support. Search the forums for a longer explanation.

Consider upgrading your system to Win2k or WinXP. I had a PentII 350mhz, 64MB ram computer that ran Win2k. It was a bit slow, but very stable and more secure than win9x, perfect for my dad.

Hi,

yes I found some topics hier in the forums, where the admin wont support this. I find this very pitty.
This ist an old laptop: 75 MHz 486-er with 16 MB ram, but this is my toolbox, all software I need (mostly freeware or opensource) runs on it: winamp, irfan view, 7zip, adobe acrobat reader, free-basic, internet-explorer 4, visual basic 4, zoc, pyro-trans, notepad++, several ham-radio and electronics and astro/gps-programms. So why not FileZilla?
So should I throw this wonderfull tool away and look for other that will work? - Perhaps a comercial one? This can not be the solution.

Greetings, Marek

Last working FZ for Win95 is 2.2.19a. I guess botg can't fix it because Win95 has NO UNICODE support.

A working FTP client for Win95 is FTPShell client.

To properly support UTF-8 enabled servers, FileZilla has to be compiled in unicode mode. But Windows 9x does not support Unicode. This is the main reason why FileZilla does not run under Win9x anymore.
Theoretically it's still possible to compile FZ in non-unicode mode. But it's a lot of work to make releases, I myself don't have the time to release Win9x packages.
