Filezilla not connecting to server on Windows 8

#1 Post by Mets-jak » 2012-09-26 12:02

I have just installed the latest version of Windows 8 (which is pretty much the final version) but Filezilla is not able to connect to the server, despite being enabled through Windows Firewall. Do you have any suggestions that I could try out? Have you managed to test Filezilla in Windows 8 at all?

If you have the WZT or MSDN ISO it IS the final version (build 9200).

So you have installed FileZilla Server in Windows 8 and want to connect to it? Then this topic should be moved to the Server forum I guess.

I have had FileZilla Server installed on build 9200 and it worked as it should.

I think the issue may be to do with proxy settings for my corporate network rather than anything related Windows 8 compatibility. I am using Filezilla client to connect to remote FTP sites... I will test outside of the corporate network and confirm if the issue is resolved.

Has anyone figured out what the problem is?

I'm using 3.6.0.2 just downloaded today. I was using Filezilla (client, not server) on Windows 7 with no issues ever. I bought a new computer using Win 8, and I made sure to export the site manager entries so that I wouldn't have to manually enter all my site info again for all the sites I manage. Now, none can connect to the server.

I open up Filezilla on my laptop (running Win 7) with the EXACT same settings that I exported and it connects as normal.

What's the scroop? Is this a Windows 8 issue because I'm using the exact same profiles with two pc's right in front of me and one can connect and the other cannot.

I also tried checking the "bypass proxy" box and that doesn't resolve the issue. And I tried changing to FTP from SFTP and that doesn't work either.

Yes, Norton Smart Firewall which I disabled and that doesn't work either.

Most firewalls install drivers which cannot be disabled. What happens if you completely uninstall that firewall for a test?

Eeeek, 20 years in IT and it's gonna be Windows 8 that takes me down! LOL!

I'll try that over the weekend. But I'm seeing this issue being reported all over the place, with all different FTP clients so I don't know if that's it. I just want to resolve this before I need to access my clients' files. They have no idea I'm going through this crap.

Thanks; I'll report back.

Maybe the Application Layer Gateway service is active, too. That one's known to fuck up FTP.

Hey, good lookin' out - thanks. Ok, hook me up. Is that a Norton security thing or a Windows thing? Where would I check that?

ALG is a Windows service, you check it inside the Services Control Panel. The Panel is located in the superior Desktop mode.
