wrong external IP adress

#1 Post by bommel » 2013-01-05 00:27

In the communication test on the client i get as a result:
Verbinden met probe.filezilla-project.org
Antwoord: 220 FZ router and firewall tester ready
USER FileZilla
Antwoord: 331 Give any password.
PASS 3.6.0.2

The returned external IP adress is my own external IP adress. When i test without the router, it works perfect.

Can anybody tell me what to change in the router. I tried a few things in port forwarding, but onestly i do not understand much of this. So it will be a guess what i'm doing.

What i see in the router is that the NAT table changes on my changes, but it is not working. It looks of the outgoing connection do'nt come outside and that there is a reflection on the router so he returns my own IP adress.

All help is welcome

The test checks for Active mode support. Therefore the IPv4 displayed here MUST be your current external IPv4 address. That's in order to the server being able to connect back to you for the data connection. You see how your client is sending the IP along with port information to the server. Then the server attempts to build a data connection back to you. That's how Active mode works. The incoming connection on your side does not fail because of the IPv4, but most probably because your client data ports are wrong/blocked.

1. Need to define an Active port range inside FileZilla.
2. Need to open that range in every firewall.
3. Need to forward the ports in the client router.

Tnx Boco.

I looked but in the test i set everything in passive mode. It must be my router. On an other machine a nake a direct connection to the internet, with a USB modem and on this machine the client is working properly, even with the firewall active. So i think i have to do something on the router. In the test ai give a port range of 14000 - 15000. Do i need to do something in the NAT with this ports. If yes what do i need to do?

In port mapping i can give a local ip, protocol and port and a public port. Do i need to map the port range from the internal to the external?

Sorry but the port forwarding is a bit confusing for me as a beginner in this field.

The test itself doesn't care what you have set. There is no test for Passive mode in FileZilla, as Passive mode requires no client configuration.
On an other machine a nake a direct connection to the internet, with a USB modem and on this machine the client is working properly, even with the firewall active.
Without a client NAT layer Active mode (and thus the test) works properly.
In the test ai give a port range of 14000 - 15000. Do i need to do something in the NAT with this ports.
In Active mode the data connections are incoming. Thus you need to forward these ports in your router. For the exact procedure consult the router manual.
In port mapping i can give a local ip, protocol and port and a public port. Do i need to map the port range from the internal to the external?
The other way. Port forwardings always are for incoming connections, never for outgoing ones.

Please note that a failing Passive mode data connection is almost always a problem with the server, not the client.
