FTP upload file size limit

#1 Post by manas » 2013-02-06 12:59

Is there any limit for file sizes for FTP uploading using FileZilla client?

I'm getting the error "Value too large for defined data type" when uploading the file through FTP that are >=2GB in size.

The limit depends all on your hosting. FTP client is just the middleman.

Limitation of your hoster's server. FileZilla can transfer files of any size, the theoretical limit is 2^64-1.

It's not a hard limit though, transfers larger than that should still work, though at that size, things like resuming, displays of file sizes, transfer speeds and such all break down.

Hi there,

Sorry to dig up this old post. We have a new client who is insisting that there is a file size limit. We have implemented a FTP backup connector and then connected to their FTP server using Filezilla. We have noticed that it times out at 200MB

Can I tell them that limit has been enforced by themselves? On their server?

Where would they look?

Or each and any stupid firewall / router / traffic shaper along the way. Mostly, those are the ones f*cking FTP up.
