could not retrieve directory

i've used filezilla for ages and i love it.

but i just got a new pc and although i get logged in to my sites i then get the message 'time out' .... 'could not retrieve directory listing'

i am using zone alarm (same as my existing pc) and have ticked to permit access.

i would appreciate your advice.

i did read this before i asked my question but did not understand it. even after using this software for ages i did not know that the settings page existed (as opposed to it's sub-pages).

i have changed the setting to passive which seems to have solved the problem. thank-you.
