Folders names with an asterisk don't work

#1 Post by xeon » 2014-01-04 18:32

Hello,

Folders that have an asterisk in the name don't seem to show up properly.

Reproduce:

1.) Create a folder with the name "test *", you'll see that it was created and shows up properly.
2.) Refresh the directory listing and you'll notice that "test *" now shows up as "test ", the asterisk was stripped off the folder name.

The raw log output still shows the correct folder name with the asterisk.

13:31:07 Listing: drwxr-xr-x 2 496 500 4096 Jan 04 13:30 test *

This is because the output of the LIST command is not covered by the FTP specifications. A trailing asterisk commonly denotes some special meaning and needs to be stripped.

To solve this, switch to a more modern server that supports the well-defined MLSD command.
