Filezilla can't download files

Hi everybody,
I can't fix this problem:
I've always used filezilla on my mac, to upload and download single file and folders from my website servers.
Now, I have changed the provider, my new server is on a cloud system - the new thing is that when I connect ftp via Filezilla I can only upload and NOT download.
I can't download anything and the message on filezilla interface is a generic "Error message", something like: it is not possible to open the file xxx on writing
I asked to the provider assistance, and they tell me that there is no reason why Filezilla sholud have problem: if the program can upload, the progam can download too.
They checked the comand with Terminal and couldn't find any reason for this behaviour.
Today, I've tried to change the permission on the folder httpdocs (I did it in Plesk Panel) giving all the permissions to owner and others user to everybody all the permissions rwx, nothing has changed.
I use Maverics.
If anybody has a suggestion, thankyou!

I have one. Don't try to write into the local root directory, as Apple doesn't allow that anymore. Navigate to your home directory under /Users and then downloads should work again.

Nothing to do with cloud host, just with your latest OS update. Welcome to the world of Write protection and Gatekeeper!

Please, be patint: what do you mean with "Navigate to your home directory under /Users "? I usually connect to domanin.ext with my username and passdord and then I have httpdocs... wich is the method you are suggesting?

Not on the server.

Apple has locked down your local filesystem. At the moment you are trying to write to a now read-only location on your PC. You need to change the local directory to one FileZilla is allowed to write to. Your home directory is under the local /Users directory, if I remember correctly. That you have write access to.

Thank-you.
Now I understand, and I have fixed it:
in Filezilla: Connect Panel: Advanced: Local Folder:
I have to choose a Folder inside my "User"
Thank-you,

How do you change the local directory to one FileZilla is allowed to write to. I would like to write to an external drive. Can I add the external drive to a local directory and if so how. Thanks
Apple tech support is no help at all - the last time I called the technician did not even know what FTP was - I am so frustrated and the time is ticking away - I need to retrieve these files and I cannot figure out how - I am beginning to be really sorry I switch from PC's to a Mac

External drives should not be locked, only system-critical directories on the main drive.

I don't know MacOS, but if it is like Linux, your mounted external devices should appear under /dev or /mnt.
