Keep FZ alive

#1 Post by elbmek » 2014-05-16 12:27

I have been using FZ Client for a couple of months now and, overall, am very pleased with it. But there is one thing it does which I hate - I upload lots of files to my sites, images, updates etc, and when I go off to find something or whatever, I come back and the connection has closed.

How do I maintain a full connection to the server until I close FZ it manually?

Just to be clear, not FileZilla, but the server is disconnecting you. Some administrators set a ridiculously low timeout of one minute or less.

You can try to enable Keep-alive commands in the settings, but it's not guaranteed to work.

The previous software may have sent keep-alive commands by default. And it is the server disconnecting, as FileZilla can stay connected literally forever.

I changed a '20' to '0' but not had chance to use it yet.

Connection timeout's got nothing to do with it. It's the server's fault, most of the time it is even dropping a message into the log.

Example from my server:
16:40:13 Response: 421 Idle Timeout (3600 seconds): closing control connection.
16:40:13 Trace: Unexpected reply, no reply was pending.
16:40:13 Error: Connection closed by server
Keep-alive commands might help, but please be aware FileZilla will stop sending them after 30 minutes. That's by design so you don't occupy servers forever.

ta much. I can understand the FL max, I just want to open for a while, then I always close it manually anyway.

Connection timeout set to 0 (blocking mode) hangs the connection in case of a problem. Setting a reasonable timeout value is preferred for automated error handling.
