Drag and drop to desktop not working

#1 Post by jivemiguel » 2014-07-26 19:22

I just updated to 3.9.0.1. Prior to this update (I don't remember what version I was using before, but it was still pretty recent), I could drag a file from the remote server pane and drop it on my desktop. This version doesn't allow this it seems. Doing this was a quick and easy way for me to examine a file, maybe edit it, and re-upload.

Has something changed or is there a setting where I could allow this again?

Thank you in advance!

Try reinstalling FileZilla, make sure the shell extension component is being selected.

I have the same problem after upgrading.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled as suggested but now when i try a directory is created with a name similar to "fz3-14065477932789" and an error message pops up saying "Could not determine the target of the drag&drop operation. Either the shell extension is not installed properly.... etc"

EDIT: Ignore above - after a further reboot it seems to have sorted itself, thx

This is annoying.

I reinstalled the Client and nothing changed. Can I go back to the pre-upgrade client state?

Been dragging php files for years now onto my desktop to modify them.

Now I have to navigate on the left window, than switch to the desktop, and start there. Thats just nonsense.

Funfact: The Drop from Desktop to the client works fine.

I'm sure hundreds of highly trained monkeys are already on it. And I'm already cheking the update menu by the hour. I really need this thing to work.

@all: Reboot! Even I was informed by NSIS (installer used by FileZilla) that it delayed further jobs until a reboot.

Rebooting did nothing for me. Still cannot drag and drop from FileZilla to Desktop. I get the little not allowed icon.

I have 64-bit OS

For this step:
4. If you have 64bit OS, you need to perform an additional step.
Type 'regsvr32 fzshellext_64.dll' (no quotes as well)
I am getting an error:

However this did resolve my issue and I am able to drag and drop to desktop again. I didn't even have to reboot. Thanks!

FIXED!
I followed the steps under the section "Re-registering the shell extension (Windows only)". I did not get any errors (only the messages that the dlls were registered properly). I then did a reboot and the problem is solved.
Thanks for the help!

have reloaded filezilla three times and still cannot get to drag and drop to desktop. Message tells me shell extension not properly installed. THere is no technical componet to this other than it tells you to install shell so you can click and drop to desktop. This never happened with old version.

Update to my previous post - it still isn't working for me. I uninstalled, rebooted, reinstalled, rebooted, and reregistered the shell extension. I get this error when I try to register the 64 bit dll:

The dll exists and is in the Filezilla directory... ???

What is the size of the file? It should be exactly 98304 bytes.

Also, on Windows there are two regsvr32, one for 32bit one for 64bit. To make sure the 64bit one is used with the 64bit DLL, add the complete path to regsvr32:

c:\windows\system32\regsvr32 fzshellext_64.dll

Thanks for this!! Using the full path worked for me now!

Root cause of this issue is a bug in NSIS' regtool.exe affecting users of 32bit Windows when a shell extension from old versions remains locked following removal of the old version. Following a reboot, regtool should have automatically registered the new shell extension but due to this bug it didn't happen.
