Have you tried disabling the WLAN and plugging an ethernet cable into your Macbook?

MTU might still be a problem if MTU path discovery is blocked at the same time.

Have you tried using the latest version of vsftpd? There have been several SSL/TLS related fixes since then. Even their latest version was released way back in 2012, there's really no excuse to be using anything less.

I do not have the LAN adapter because I never needed one, but my colleague running an older macbook with lan port reported the same problems (LAN and WLAN)!

Also I have tried the latest version of vsftpd, same issues (I dont think its vsftpd related) :-(
I am using this old version because it is in my distros repo (debian)

EDIT: Any ideas what I could try in case of the MTU?

EDIT2: same problem as this guy viewtopic.php?f=2&t=24203 but even with clean IPtables I have the same errors! The mac filewall is disabled... Oh and I tried the upload on a proftpd server without problems. After all it seems to be vsftpd related. More or less... Weird thing as I said before. Parallels working, the system itself not

The general approach to troubleshooting MTU related issues is to try out a really low MTU, for example 666 and to disable path-MTU-discovery.

Try updating to vsftpd 3.0.2, does that make a difference?

Might be a very subtle timing issue?

Changing the MTU size doesn't change the behavior.

I'll try updating to the most recent version in a few days.

Timing issue. Sounds weird but could be possible. Dunno.

I have used wireshark to track the uploads using a "working" connection and the non-working one. I found some errors. One appears on both: TCP Out-of-Order, TCP Retransmission and TCP Dup Ack.
On my timeout dump I get some more: 500 OOPS: child died, 500 OOPS: priv_sock_get_int, 500 OOPS: vsf_sysutil_recv_peek

All these dying children. The server is screaming for an update :)

Unfortunately it's not that easy :-( As far as I know there is no backport for wheezy and I don't want to mess up my system with jessy packages :-/

edit: decided to give sftp a try
