can't connect to ftp after update

I have checked with server, and my ftp is ok, and I can connect to my ftp from my laptop, which still has the old version of filezilla, but on my desktop I have updated to the latest version and I can no longer connect to my ftp. please help

I have a similar problem since the latest upgrade .. the log in process fails to read one particular directory and times out:

The server does not correctly support FTP over TLS. Set Encryption for that server to Plain FTP (insecure) in the Site Manager.

I see the change mentioned in the release notes (FTP over TLS is now used by default if the server supports it.), but I think it needs to be more clearly communicated. Apparently a good many servers seem to support it, but do not. All three servers I log into stopped working after the update. Those with a bit of technical skill, or the ability to Google, can find and fix the issue, but I fear many will just drop a great product out of frustration.

I tried what you suggested, to set the encryption to plain ftp, but it didn't help. In the end, I uninstalled Filezilla, and successfully reinstalled the old version. I'll just not update it, and I'll be fine.

I am also having issues connecting after updating. Let me state that I DO NOT have any control over the server or its settings and this will not change. It is a vendor's site. Also, changing the encryption to use plain FTP also does not work. Any suggestions on how to resolve this or when you may provide a patch and update your software?

First, forget plain FTP, that FTP server expects FTP over TLS.

Second, would you please test the server using our https://ftptest.net site?

Looks like one of those broken servers only supporting RC4. RC4 is utterly insecure and MUST NOT be used anymore. See RFC 7465 for details.

Contact your server administrator or server hosting provider for assistance to have the server fixed.
