530 Login authentication failed

#1 Post by frenchy1955 » 2015-08-19 02:49

Hi,
I have Windows 10 installed, Norton 360 Premier, an a RT-AC66U router,
I have a webpage created with Front Page, then converted to Expression Web 4. My web provider is Yahoo. My provider stopped support for Expression Web for updating my files. I switched quite a while ago to FileZilla. I had a few problems but managed to fixed them in the past. Few weeks ago I managed to transfer quite a few files using FileZilla, but it quit. Several attempts were made with same results.
I get the following error
Resolving address of ftp.xxxxxxxx.com
Status: Connecting to xx/xx/xxx/xxx...
Status: Connection established, waiting for welcome message...
Status: Initializing TLS...
Status: Verifying certificate...
Status: TLS connection established.
Command: USER XXXXXXXX
Response: 331 User XXXXXXX OK. Password required
Command: PASS ********
Response: 530 Login authentication failed
Error: Critical error: Could not connect to server
I went back to Yahoo, removed both user and add new ones. add password, went back to FileZilla, deleted my site, started a new one with new information. Same error. Tried again, same.

Rechecked setting for FileZilla

Click the File menu
Click Site Manager
Click New Site
In the General tab, enter this information in the appropriate fields: ◦Host: ftp.example.com (replace example.com with your domain name)
◦Port: Leave blank
◦Protocol: FTP - File Transfer Protocol
◦Encryption: Require explicit FTP over TLS
◦Logon Type: Normal
◦User: Yahoo ID@example.com (replace example.com with your domain name)
◦Password: Your Yahoo ID password

Click Connect

Note: The first time you connect using FTPS, you'll get an "Unknown certificate" message. Select "Always trust certificate in future sessions" and you won't get this message again

Everything is good. No typo

Am I missing something
Thanks
JF

Did you verify that the certificate is legit and not some fake certificate injected by your firewall/AV product or some other malware?

How do I do that with Windows 10 and Norton 360?

When the certificate is shown it also shows the certificate's fingerprint. Compare this fingerprint with the one you got from your server administrator or server hosting provider over a different, secure channel, e.g. on a piece of paper handed over in a ID-verified face to face meeting.
