help with windows firewall

#1 Post by adog3050 » 2007-07-18 16:34

I am trying to use FileZilla to access an ftp site from my laptop, running Vista. When my windows firewall is off, I can connect to the site just fine. When my firewall is on, I cannot. I include the log, below.

I have added FileZilla as an "exception" in the windows firewall, but this does not affect the problem.

Any help for a newbie?

Thanks,
Aaron

Thanks botg.

Let's assume I'm a dummy about ftp and firewalls (I am). Is there anything *specific* that I can try? I read the wiki, but I can't figure out what changes I need to make to either (a) my FileZilla client or (b) my firewall.

Thanks,
Aaron

Sorry, I don't believe in personal firewalls, I only know the theory behind them. Check the manual that came with your firewall for details.

I have Windows XP sp2 firewall and am having a small problem with the
network configuration wizard using filezilla client 3.0 beta 11 . Like the OP I have made filezilla an "exception". I know that Vista firewall and XP sp2 firewall are not the same. But anyway, I am getting the following when running the network configuration test :
<filezilla output begins>

Connecting to probe.filezilla-project.org
Response: 220 FZ router and firewall tester ready
USER FileZilla
Response: 331 Give any password.
PASS 3.0.0-beta11
Response: 230 logged on.
Checking for correct external IP address
IP 4.226.45.115 e-ccg-ef-bbf
Response: 200 OK
PREP 2169
Response: 200 Using port 2169, data token 1697887580
PORT 4,226,45,115,8,121
Response: 502 Port mismatch. Tainted by router or firewall.
Server sent invalid reply.
Connection closed

<filezilla output ends> . Despite this error in the network configuration test the current configuration seems to be working fine. :) I am using a dial-up connection with no router or hardware firewall; just a standalone home computer.

Exactly, it seems to be working, but it can fail at any point if the test did not succeed.

So I have the exact same problem and I allowed Filezilla and port 20 and port 21 on my Windows Vista Firewall AND configured port forwarding for port 20 and 21 for my router. Same problem persists. I'd really like to read topics 3452 and 4086 regarding this issue but the links bring me to the index page instead. Could someone please direct me to these pages?
