FileZilla freezes on Mac when uploading lots of files/folders

#1 Post by DirtTrailGarage » 2015-12-29 18:20

I've been using FileZilla on Mac's and PC's for quite some time and have never had this happen. Last night on 2 different Mac's when trying to upload a large amount of files and folders (2,000+). The client would freeze and show as not responding, however the files/folders would still upload to the server. I've never had this happen before on these mac's and curious if this is related to a recent update. Only thing different on my end is I went from 50mb internet speed to 1gb.

OS X has very slow UI rendering. It's so busy rendering all the stuff FileZilla wants to display that it has no time to react to user input anymore.

Are there any adjustments I can make or just let it freeze up and work in the background? I don't need to see the scrolling updates as each file/folder is moved but it's more of a pain when I have other stuff I could be uploading/downloading but can't until it unfreezes. Thanks for the explanation in it, makes sense!

Try setting a speed limit that's below your connection's capacity if you don't mind the resulting transfer slowness.

I know this is an old post,
but I've learned that if you disable two of the PANELS,
then FileZilla would run smoother,
since it doesn't need to show these 'millisecond' updates.

View > Transfer Queue (UNCHECK)
View > Message Log (UNCHECK)

After that, you can see your queue on the bottom left corner to see if there are things still transferring.
Or you can PAUSE the transfer, activate those PANELS to see the status, then remove them again, and RESUME the file transfer.

Hopefully this helps in your situation.

Running FileZilla on "12-Core" Mac Pro with 64GB Ram
and this helped with the freezing issues when transferring lots of files.
