FileZilla not downloading all directories and subdirectories

#1 Post by Boballoo » 2016-07-07 06:19

There are posts here about this problem but none of them seem to answer the issue of FileZilla not downloading all directories and subdirectories and files in those subdirectories. I have a site with about 10,000 files in dozens of directories and subdirectories. When I connect with filezilla, all these directories show up on the remote site with question marks. I realize that Filezilla does not know what is in those (But why not? Why doesn't it automatically examine these?) but presumably if I open the "httpdocs" directory on the remote site and then select all files and directories below that, drag them to the local "httpdocs" folder, which I created on my home machine, it should download all files and directories and subdirectories for the entire site, right? But it never does and I end up having to go through and check each directory and half of them are there and the other half are empty or just a few files in them. What am I doing wrong? How can I fix this?

Time. Depending on the speed of the connection to the server it can take hours to query that information. So unless needed, FileZilla does not examine the contents of these directories.

Are there any failed transfers in the queue? Have there been errors in the message log?

No errors, no failed transfers. This always happens. I think I am doing something wrong but not sure what. I am not sure what you mean by "Time" If I select a folder to download, shouldn't it automatically download everything inside the folder? Or at least ask me if I want to but that would soon become tedious to me I think. I have just now right clicked on the "httpdocs" folder on my remote server and then clicked "Add to Queue" and it parsed all folders and files in the remote "httpdocs" directory and after it did that I clicked the "Toggles Transfer Queue" button and it is now downloading all files and from what i see so far it is working correctly but that seems like a long work around for a basic task and I can't imagine that is the "proper" way.

Read your original question again. You were asking why FileZilla does not automatically scan all subdirectories when displaying the parent directory.
I have just now right clicked on the "httpdocs" folder on my remote server and then clicked "Add to Queue" and it parsed all folders and files in the remote "httpdocs" directory and after it did that I clicked the "Toggles Transfer Queue" button
That's essentially the same what the "Download" option does.

FileZilla not uploading subdirectories, or files to the server
I have seen this many times, but I have not seen an answer. It uploads the name of the thumbdrive to my domain, but it does not upload anything else. I cannot see subdirectories or files on my thumbdrive to upload. Someone suggested changing setting "See raw..." something or other setting, but it's a mystery as to where this setting is located. Shouldn't showing all subdirectories and files be a default? Please HELP!
