Please double-check your login credentials. Watch for character case and leading/trailing whitespace.

Try manually entering it, don't paste it.

I have also manually typed it in. As its a password i use on a daily basis so i know i am typing it correctly. I have also done 2 cean installs of filezilla to see if it was the client. Also no joy. I dont understand how he can vonnect but i cant. We are with ovh could they be blocking my ip from connecting.

Doesn't look like an IP block.

Do you by chance have pageant running or SFTP private keys configured in FileZilla's setting dialog? Some badly configured servers refuse login after the first failed attempt without going through all supported methods. The latter is how SSH has been designed to work like.

FTP cannot be used on port 22 because 22 is reserved for SFTP/SSH (a different protocol).

For FTP, use 21. If you need 22, change protocol for that server to SFTP in FileZilla (Site Manager, for QuickConnect use sftp:// protocol identifier).

The presence of an SSH agent such as Pageant with many loaded keys is the most reasonable explanation I can think of. Everything else seems absurd.

Although its a very very old topic.

But I found a fresh solution, which is not found in any of the answers above, has been struck upon by me.

When I found similar error 'Authentication Failed.', and my username and password were fully ok.

So what I found in the last was my account was somehow expired (I found it with the command: chage -l username). That's it. I unexpired it (with chage -E yyyy-mm-dd username) and I was able to login.
