SmartFTP ---> FileZilla

#1 Post by lucky644 » 2007-09-10 01:59

Hey, I have a TON of sites in my site manager on SmartFTP, is there a way to export them over? I tried exporting from SmartFTP and it made each site into a seperate xml file...but FileZilla couldn't import a single one.

Thanks!

SmartFTP and FileZilla do not use the same XML format for storing favorite sites. While newer SmartFTP version use on XML file per site, FileZilla uses one XML for all sites. So currently, AFAIK there is no automated way of importing SmartFTP favorites to FileZilla 3.

AFAIR fz2 at least at some point could import SmartFTP sites. If you start FZ2, open the site manager and go File - Import, and try to open the settings file from SmartFTP. Then, import from FZ2 to FZ3.
For help and support, check out the support page on the wiki.

Hi,

Would you know with which v2-subversion this workaround works?

I had an idea to migrate our whole department from SmartFTP to something more easily deployed like Filezilla, but if such a basic function as more import-variants isn't available, this ftp-client isn't that interesting for now... :cry:

How come this isn't more developed? It's after all at v3 now...

TIA.

SmartFTP is close-source software. I won't add support for proprietary formats.

Oh, that slipped my mind; got it. Thx for Filezilla though. :wink:
