failed to create listen socket, aborting

I just downloaded FileZilla and did the configuration test to see if it would work with my system. I am using a MacBook Air (13-inch, Early 2015) running MacOS Sierra. My firewall is turned off. I live in Shanghai China so I originally thought the error was due to that, so I turned on my VPN and that is why there are two reports with two different IP addresses. Anyway, here's what I get:

Connecting to probe.filezilla-project.org
Connection established, waiting for welcome message.
Response: 220 FZ router and firewall tester ready
USER FileZilla
Response: 331 Give any password.
PASS 3.25.2
Response: 230 logged on.

Response: 200 OK

Connection closed

First test without the VPN and second one with a VPN. Any thoughts on what might be preventing this from being succesful?

You either entered a range of ports that's invalid or there's still some firewall on your machine that prevents FileZilla from opening a port.

in the configure port range I am using ask operating system for a port, but I am using a wireless router. Maybe thats it as all my firewalls say they are off. I think I just answered my question. How do I forward the available ports?

Have a look at your router's documentation.

Note that the error you are getting is still a local problem independent of the used router. There has to be some firewall blocking FileZilla.

Mac firewalls are off by default and I have never turned it on. I Have Iboostup as an app but it also says that the firewall is disabled. I use adware removal but there is no where it says anything about a firewall I also have Bitdefender virus scanner installed but don't see any where that has a firewall. what else could this be? I would like to use FileZilla with my websites but have been researching this and can't find any answers. Any ideas?

These days virus scanners almost always are also firewalls. What happens if you uninstall all virus scanners for a test?

Head to the nearest airport and board the first plane destined to a country that embraces the free exchange of thoughts and ideas.

Believe me that is already in my plan, going to HongKong in a few weeks. Although I managed to get past the agony with aVPN, I still prefer someplace I don't need one to get to the internet ...

ps.

In case anybody is interested, the VPN I use is [a VPN provider], don't touch [a different VPN provider not endorsed by me], it simply doesn't work in China, took me hours to figure that out.
