Issues Adding a Keyfile for sFTP

#1 Post by mst_2017 » 2017-06-05 11:42

Hello,

We use Public Key Authentication with a 3rd Party to transfer files to them securely. I've received a new Userid and Public Key file from our 3rd Party and trying to convert this to a Private Key using the Password supplied. Previously when taking the option "Add key file..." in Settings -> SFTP I would be presented with a Dialog Box saying the
"The .ppk is password protected. Password protected but this is not supported by Filezilla. Would you like to convert it into an inprotected file?"

I used to take the Option "Yes" and Enter the password supplied by the 3rd Party to create the new file.

This time I'm not being prompted with the box asking if I want to convert the file and I don't understand what has changed? I don't believe my version of Filezilla has changed. I am running v3.22.1.

Can anyone help?

Many thanks,
Mark

I have upgraded my Filezilla Client, now running 3.26.2 but have the same issue converting the Public Key supplied by the 3rd party, I've pasted in the description from my original post.

Would you like to convert it into an unprotected file?"

I used to take the Option "Yes" and be prompted with a Dialog box asking for a Password, I would enter the password supplied by the 3rd Party to create the new file.

This time I'm not being prompted with the box asking if I want to convert the file and I don't understand what has changed?

Can anyone help?

Many thanks,
Mark

Not all file formats need to be converted.

It doesn't seem just to be new files, if I try to open a file that has previously asked me to convert it, it doesn't want to do it now either.
Is there something outside of Filezilla that may have caused this change of behaviour?
Thanks,
Mark

The newer version of FileZilla supports more formats than the old.

Thanks for the quick responses.
Let me recap our issue.
We started to experience differing behaviour in Filezilla when it stopped wanting to convert .ppk files. Our filezilla version had not changed.
I started this thread then was informed that only the latest version was supported.
I upgraded my Filezilla to the latest version but still have the same problem.

I am now trying to understand why the behaviour has changed.

Can anyone help explain?

Many thanks,
Mark

Did you change your key generation?

It's a 3rd Party that generates the Key for us but if I run a test using older .ppk's that I know Filezilla prompted to convert before, it no longer prompts.

Hello,

I have a problem adding my private key to Key file of FileZilla. When I browse the private key nothing shows up.
This is how I setup:
1- I used PuTTYgento to generate the public and private keys. Add the public key to the server. I save the private key az a PPK file.
2- I added the private key in the PuTTY configuration>SSH>Auth and I could connect to it (Just mentioned it to show the private key is correct and working)
3- On FileZilla, I chose the site manager under the file. Chose new site:
Protocol: SFTF-SSH File Transfer Protocol
Typed an appropriate host and port
Logon Type: Key file
user is typed
and now choose the key file nothing shows up in the box next to the Browse

Any idea???
Thank you in advance!!

I had this exact issue in Site Manager > Add/Edit :- could not select the .ppk keyfile using Browse.
Typing the path to the file didn't help either.
Keyfile had been converted from .pem to .ppk elsewhere.
Importing the .pem instead, and letting FileZilla convert to .ppk solved it.
