Failed to create listening socket on port 0, aborting
Network Testing yielded this (so I think I'm almost there)

Response: 200 OK

Connection closed

To be quite honest, this whole subject of connecting an FTP Client to an FTP Server, is so complicated. Its actually beyond my ken. But I give it a try.
I had a disk crash using openSUSE. I've honestly never used Windows of any kind, but I upgraded my system to Windows10. I'm wanting to FTP my hosted websites back down to my local PC. I decided on FileZilla as my FTP Client.
I'm using Passive mode, as recommended. The rest of the log file just dealt with the handshaking, and I seemed to login. I tried to look where to set the listening port and what to set it to. I couldn't find anything appropriate setting in FileZilla (maybe my technical blindness). I tried a Google Search, and couldn't find this exact question being asked and answered. Which lead me here. I tried looking in the docs and experienced the same blindness.
So my question is simply how to overcome this error and remain logged in.
I'm behind an ISP's DSL Router, but not sure if I can login to it if the answer lies there. I'm not sure what FTP server my host is running.
I've been trying to resolve this issue for at least 3hrs with no luck.

Re: Failed to create listening socket on port 0, aborting
I'm having the same issue. I'm using Windows 10.
In the configuration wizard, I am using the passive transfer mode, opting to use the servers external IP address, and asking for an open port. When running the configuration wizard and testing, this is what I get:
Connecting to probe.filezilla-project.org
Connection established, waiting for welcome message.
Response: 220 FZ router and firewall tester ready
USER FileZilla
Response: 331 Give any password.
PASS 3.27.1
Response: 230 logged on.
Checking for correct external IP address
IP 184.53.33.228 bie-fd-dd-cci
Response: 200 OK
Failed to create listen socket on port 0, aborting.
Connection closed
This is the second day that I have been working on this with no luck. HELP!!

Re: Failed to create listening socket on port 0, aborting
A firewall is blocking FileZilla.

Re: Failed to create listening socket on port 0, aborting
Any idea whose or what firewall is blocking FileZilla. Even a guess? Is it on my computer, in the router, at the ISP, at the hosting provider? Somewhere else? Is it some kind of standard settings which is easily corrected? Any idea about the commands required to fix it?botg wrote:A firewall is blocking FileZilla.
I've got a standard Windows10 setup. So how to look to see if it's a firewall in Windows10, and what do I need to change the settings to.

Your very computer.
Re: Failed to create listening socket on port 0, aborting
Having this very problem at work.
First thing I tried was to turn off the firewall on the iMac here at work.
No luck.
Have absolutely no problem connecting via FZ from home with my firewall on, but you're saying it's a firewall on my very own computer?
Please explain.

Did you succesfully repair this problem? If so how? I realize this is an old thread, but I have been beating my head against the same exact problem. My firewall exceptions are set up to allow Filezilla to communicate, so i don't see how that could be it.

Re: Failed to create listening socket on port 0, aborting
Just in case it was the firewall, I disabled both the antivirus and windows firewalls...no help.
Re: Failed to create listening socket on port 0, aborting
Still having this issue, firewall is turned off, and when it was turned on I still had no problems connecting previously. I was using FileZilla just yesterday and it worked just fine, haven't changed a thing relating to network privacy other than turn off my firewall since then.
