FileZilla does, seems the server doesn't. Especially if you get a 'Server does not support non-ASCII characters.' message in the log. Note that @ seems to be special for many servers.apparently filezilla doesn't like special characters in passwords like @#$%+ etc...

Re: 530 Login authentication failed
My hosting company requires an @ sign in the ftp username.
I can connect to their FTP server OK using the command line FTP utility in Windows 7.
However, the same username and password in Filezilla fails to login.
I believe this is a known problem but I don't know the fix.

If you type
debug
in the FTP.exe client you will then see what it sends to the server. Make a note of what it sends exactly as username and password. If you enter the exact same information into FileZilla client (including as capitalization), you should get the exact same result.

Re: 530 Login authentication failed
I did what you suggested using ftp.exe, but the same login and password does not work with filezilla.
The login name has a "@" in it, like an email address, as required by the hosting company.
This appears to be a known problem with filezilla, as mentioned elsewhere.
From what I read here, this is a filezilla bug that will not accept a @ sign in the username, as evidenced that I can login fine using ftp.exe under Windows.
Still need a workaround to this filezilla bug.
OR, why don't the filezilla coders test this and acknowledge it as a bug and then fix it?

Re: 530 Login authentication failed
There's nothing special about the @ in a username for FileZilla.
If ftp.exe works but FileZilla doesn't with the same login credentials, then you're either not using the same login credentials or FileZilla is being blocked by some firewall.

Try using the IP instead of the URL.

Hello everybody, zalaf wrote:Recently, I configured a new PC and downloaded the latest version of Filezila. Everything worked fine. Conclusion: something was wrong with the version 3 I had.
i had the same problem , on my new computer i did not received the message 530 Login authentication failed. Could it be that some kind of settings in my old version did not LET me login to your website ?

fix : 530 Login authentication failed
Solution : 530 Login authentication failed
Host: should be your Ip Address . Make sure its the correct one. not the one that appear on filzilla the one from godaddy.
User name: Example@example.com. Not just user by it self.
password: the password you created
click quick connect.
Thats all

Re: 530 Login authentication failed
If the IP works but the URL doesn't, then either the URL changed/has problems or your DNS is FUBAR. The correct Hostname will resolve to the right IP(s)!

Re: 530 Login authentication failed
I too am/was receiving this 530 Login Authentication Failed message.
One of my End Users uses FileZilla and his computer was extremely slow, it was Windows 7 Pro.
We ordered an computer, I exported the FileZilla files from the old computer and imported it into the new computer and new version of Filezilla.
when the user went to use Filezilla he was getting the 530 login authentication failed message.
I uninstall the new version of Filezilla and installed the version he had before and he was still getting the 530 error message.
I went to the hosting site and changed the password on one of the FTP sites he has set up, then changed the password in the Site Management in FileZilla, press connect and it works.
He has a lot of sites to change the passwords to and it will be cumbersome however we are hoping someone can explain why this happened... I exported the file for an older version and imported the file into the newest version of filezilla. unfortunately the old computer has been formatted and is out of service so I can not export the file again and import it into the new computer with the older version of filezilla.
thanks in advance.

Downgrading is not a supported use case and can result in loss of sites and settings.I uninstall the new version of Filezilla and installed the version he had before and he was still getting the 530 error message.

Re: 530 Login authentication failed
I downgraded FileZilla after we were getting the 530 Login Authentication Failed message and even after I downgraded it, we were still getting the error. that is when I went in and changed the password with our hosting site and in FileZilla and was able to connect. I haven't upgraded to the newer version since I have seen others were/are having the same issue, thinking that the newer version has an issue that needs to be taken care of.
