McAfee reports a virus in the client download. Any thoughts on that?

False-positive, there are no viruses on any files linked through https://filezilla-project.org/

That's a tautological false-positive. Everything is by definition potentially unwanted. The usual scare-tactics employed by AV vendors to trick their users into rationalizing their prior purchase through instilling fear of malware.

Everything is by definition potentially unwanted.
That's true, but the adware you are shipping with your tools is probably unwanted by a lot more users than the FTP-client itself.

I think you would serve your users better if you uncovered details of the adware added to the installer and the opt-out options. You could also refer to the PRO-edition which, presumably, doesn't ship with adware.

Anyway, Windows System Center Endpoint Protection is blocking your current installer and I am not going to force an installation.

Same here. Windows today removed/blocked the App. I can not use it anymore. I will not setup an exception for an FTP Client.

Also blocked by Microsoft today. Please correct either by addressing with the multiple AV companies blocking your tool or change your code. I really do not want to start using other tools as they are all significantly slower and at times corrupt files, especially when they think the Unix file is a Windows file.

(I tried using the Preview button for this post and it just flashes on and off, split second... Could be my side, but things like this at a time where AV are blocking your tool for viruses, just makes us feel even more uncomfortable)

I suspect I will be uninstalling the current version I have because it automatically downloaded multiple "bundled" update versions and got caught. I was not aware of how many files it downloaded the first time but sat and watched it download different filenames into my downloads folder. Meanwhile, the files began disappearing soon after they appeared.

I have no idea why FileZilla downloaded every version newer than the current version I have, maybe it's a bug? Whatever the reason, it misbehaved and is now in trouble.

The AdWare, RDN/Generic.dx, is in the setup EXE (FileZilla_3.35.2_win64-setup.exe); not in the installed program suite itself.

Here here. Do you want a clean distro that doesn't make IT admins have a conniption? Just strip the AdWare out of the wrapper.

Great app, BTW, worthy of my time spent trying to improve only it's packaging.

Cheers

No idea why you would want to do that if clean installers are available with just one more click. You don't HAVE to use the bundled packages.

My ESET software reports this also in the latest 3.38.1 version. No thanks - I will not allow adware to run on my computer... especially when it comes with something such as an FTP client.

Please consider your users and remove this.

I find that amusing. Let me translate that to plain English: "Let the peasants who don't mind adware or read every single word on the download page click on that big green button. For the rest, there is another option accessible after just one more click."

Questionable monetization through a dark UX pattern.
