Error start FileZilla

#1 Post by rzaprianov » 2018-04-12 09:36

Hello there,

I was on my way to build from source a program for subtitles Aegisub, as it is not available for Ubuntu 18.04 (amd 64) LTS .... the installation failed (which is another story) using this instructions, but the most bigger problem which appeared after that is that FileZilla doesn't start. In GUI mode there is nothing, no error, no anything ... just doesn't start. In terminal I saw there is an error message

Code: Select all

filezilla: relocation error: filezilla: symbol _ZNK8wxWindow7IsShownEv version WXU_3.0 not defined in file libwx_gtk2u_core-3.0.so.0 with link time reference
I already uninstalled the problem package wxWidgets, but the problem with starting FileZilla still exist.

Any idea how to fix that?

P.S. Sorry if the question is duplicated, I searched and didn't find in the forum such issue.

Regards,

Rumen

Oh what joy, the linked instructions install libraries without using a custom prefix :(

Try searching for all files and directories starting with wx in /usr/local and after making a backup, delete them.

All files deleted as per your instructions. Unfortunately the result remains the same:

Code: Select all

filezilla: relocation error: filezilla: symbol _ZNK8wxWindow7IsShownEv version WXU_3.0 not defined in file libwx_gtk2u_core-3.0.so.0 with link time reference
Should I uninstall and install again the FIleZilla?

I don't think merely reinstalling FZ helps here. Your wx installation has become damaged. Make sure to delete all leftovers of the botched wx installation from the ill-stated instructions you linked earlier and make sure the remaining wx files are from a proper installation match.

If all fails, format your system disk and reinstall your operating system.

April 29 will be the official release of Ubuntu 18.04 - then the new Kernel will take place, so the old Kernel should be replaced. Will that fix the issue?

This has absolutely nothing to do with the kernel.

Workaround: Terminal --> Folder with source "FileZilla" --> Folder Bin --> $ sudo ./filezilla and it works!!!

Don't run normal programs as root unless you fully intend to manage important system files with it.

If I can run it as root - what is the problem to run it as normal user? There should be a way ... if the installation is broken I would not be able to run it root as well (at least there is no logic for me). As normal user I got error:

Code: Select all

Error loading „/home/ucc/.config/filezilla/queue.sqlite3“.

There should be a way ..
There is, fix the underlying problem, don't try to work around it.

su and sudo sanitize the environment as a security measure. Your user account must have something odd in its environment.

Hi,

I've just upgraded Filezilla to v.3.64.0 and I'm now getting the following error at startup and shutdown:

An error occurred loading the transfer queue from "/home/xxx/.config/filezilla/queue.sqlite3".

Other than that, the programme seems to be functioning okay.

Can anyone shed any lite please?

Just delete the corrupted queue file, the full path is printed by the error. FileZilla will create a new file upon next start.
