I've got a FileZilla Server instance set up in an Azure Virtual Machine. I can connect to the server using FileZille client but sometimes when I try to retrieve files it works no problem, other times on the same connection I get weird gibberish text from the server returned.
Server version: 0.9.41 beta LDAP
client version: 3.30.0
It's a FTPS passive connection and the client is set to force UTF-8.
Sometimes I get this:
Status: Starting download of /Heloooooo.txt
Command: PASV
Response: 227 Entering Passive Mode (40,70,132,97,195,201)
Command: RETR Heloooooo.txt
Response: 150 Connection accepted
Response: 226 Transfer OK
Status: File transfer successful, transferred 33 bytes in 1 second
While other times I get this:
Status: Starting download of /Hi Fannie.txt
Command: PASV
Response: 227 Entering Passive Mode (40,70,132,97,195,202)
Command: RETR Hi Fannie.txt
Response:
Response: P‘Ù,ç¤BA³öç1MžGÄͺ…Pnד?«Þj…™·¬¨”ŸÑ(2‚@ilÛ‰Ý6|öa*ì²
iÓØ
Error: File transfer failed
Response: …}
Response: È”i‘öËš$Oy%È8425 Can't open data connection.
There's no weird unicode characters in the filenames or in the text within the files.
Not sure where to go from here, it's seemingly random. Let me know if I need to add any additional information and I can do so.
I've got some additional problems as well I'm not sure are related:
Sometimes after the client sends the MLSD command the server states the the connection is accepted and and SSL connection is established but the client times out and states that it's disconnected from server but server still shows connection as active and I have to kick the user.

Re: Retrieve Sometimes Fails with gibberish text
You need to update to the most recent version of FileZilla Server, we cannot support outdated versions.
Re: Retrieve Sometimes Fails with gibberish text
Hi botg,
I have updated to the latest FileZilla Server version 0.9.60 beta and I am having the same behavior.
Sometimes the download work other times I get something like this:
server log:

Those are for the same download. The server says it was successful, but the client gets gibberish and says the File transfer failed. Though that's not always what happens sometimes I get this:

Re: Retrieve Sometimes Fails with gibberish text
I just realized you're also using an outdated client version. Could you update it as well please?
Re: Retrieve Sometimes Fails with gibberish text
Gah! Due to company restrictions I can only access version 3.30 at the moment but I will put in a request to see if I can upgrade to 3.34.0 and I will update if I continue to see this behavior when that happens. Thank you.
Re: Retrieve Sometimes Fails with gibberish text
Ah compliance, the antithesis of both security and reliability.
