centurylink Ipv6 modem C2000T SSH

#1 Post by pixelpadre » 2018-09-05 19:20

So this morning I was messing around with my c2000T router. It had been set to disable ipv6. I decided it is time to try and get ipv6 going in the house. So I enabled it. Cool, firefox is working well. sights are coming up. Then I went to FZ and tried to login to my server like I do everyday and zero. The server address is ip4. That startled me a bit, then I thought "whats changed?". I remembered that I had changed my router to ipv6. So I went back and disabled ipv6 on the router and I was able to get back to my server no problem. To me, that doesnt make sense. SSH

That doesn't make sense at all, unless you enabled IPv6 Only. These days, the best way to connect is Dual Stack, with a fully working public IPv4 and IPv6.

Btw, even with dual stack, if either you or the server have a dysfunctional IPv6 connection (in the sense that you have IPv6, but it doesn't work right due to a ghost route or blocked Path MTU), the server could be unreachable over IPv6.
FileZilla will, after a timeout, try other IPs associated with the server URL.
