Error with FileZilla_3.40.0_x86_64-linux-gnu.tar.bz2

I downloaded and installed FileZilla_3.40.0_x86_64-linux-gnu.tar.bz2. Upon unpacking and setting up under '/opt', I receive the following error attempting to launch from the command-line:

Code: Select all

/opt/FileZilla3/bin/filezilla: error while loading shared libraries: libpng16.so.16: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
I launched from the command-line for there was no feedback launching from a menu item.

I am using Kubuntu 14.4.05 so it should be compatible.

I verified the sha512 hash and they match.

A google search of the error led to this url posting.php?mode=post&f=2. Is there another fix than compiling from source?

The binaries are for Debian 9 or compatible.

On other systems you need to compile FZ from source.

Granted. Kubuntu is Ubuntu with KDE. Ubuntu is a Debian derivative. Should my distro not be compatible then?

Note how I said Debian 9, not just Debian.
