FileZilla Security Issue

I have been using FileZilla, for the past 2 years, with very few issues. That is, up until now.

I had just gone to access a website, via File > Site Manager, where I could see that all of the Field Boxes had been greed out as well as the on-page Tabs. Assuming some form of corruption had occurred, I proceeded to Uninstall FileZilla and install a clean version via the Official Site.

Unfortunately, my Anti-Virus and Firewall (Norton) were blocking the download; citing security concerns. I then disabled the Anti-Virus and Firewall, which allowed the download but when I enabled the Anti-Virus and Firewall, it automatically deleted FileZilla and highlighted security concerns again.

This has never happened in the 2+ years I have been using FileZilla. As such, I am wondering if there are any issues at present and when these may be resolved?

Can you use the download from this site?

How strange. I was able to download from the link you highlighted but when I download from another download page, on the same domain, Norton highlights the download as being suspicious and then removes the downloaded file from the Downloads folder as well as any of its installed files.

Thanks for your help!

It's a false-positive, there is no malware in the offer-enabled installer.

Yes there is no malware, but there is a caveat on this. You do get adware and this was my experience ...

Web browser pages being switched without prompt or warning, and at random. Seemed MS Edge was it's favourite judging by the frequency it happened with that browser. Chrome not so much.

Norton would stop my browser before landing on that page and identify it as a malicious site. I decided to let one through and see what the page was, (after first reading about false positives in these forums). The 'surprise' page was giving me a message that my McAfee is about to expire, and follow the link (no McAfee on my system). As far as I was concerned, this adware was leading me to malware.

I blamed Microsoft, and number of other sites for their malicious ads until I was able to nail these "ad" trojans arriving with each FZ update.

Updates named this: FileZilla_3.42.1_win64-setup
were never a problem until these started to show up:
FileZilla_3.42.1_win64_sponsored-setup
FileZilla_3.41.2_win64-setup_bundled

Since uninstall (which proved difficult - viewtopic.php?f=2&t=51158)
I have not had any of these adware trojans. Researching third party reviews, my decision is made.

Do not spread misinformation. This doesn't happen without warning. You were asked whether you want to have your browser settings changed and you agreed to it.

@botg - I've seen you try to push this differentiation between adware and malware in several topics.

Many businesses lump them together because adware often causes inexperienced users to accidentally download actual malware as part of clicking on the adware.

If FileZilla clearly showed when an installer would include bundled offers, that'd be acceptable. But I don't see any clear wording on the site showing "this package includes bundled offers often described as adware"

VS a different one that clearly calls out "this package only includes the FileZilla app"

Guess what's written below the download button?
This installer may include bundled offers. Check below for more options.
