530 Login authentication failed

#1 Post by zigg122 » 2019-05-20 06:17

I read the forums, and read the Google searches and Youtube channels, and it is all repeating the same information which won't work for me.

I am a long time, private user of Filezilla client, and manage a number of domains for NFP organisations.
My domains are all located on cPanel servers and the username and password all work perfectly with cPanel. I use Filezilla to simplify my file management, which used to work perfectly.

Some months ago, I started getting the 530 Login Authentication error. I thought the problem would resolve itself. I used other means to do my work, and forgot Filezilla, but the problem continued without resolution.
It is not related to usernames or passwords, which work perfectly through cPanel.

I tried different protocols, encryption, security and ports to no avail.

Something changed in Filezilla. Currently running latest update 3.42.1

How do I fix this change so I do not have to use filemanger in cPanel???? What is happening??

Does the FTP server running on the server machine know that the credentials you use for cpanel are supposed to also work for FTP?

Prior to it not working correctly, Filezilla logged to my nominated cPanel folder (public_html) without any problem. I have had years of use without telling the cPanel about setup.

I do not own the server or software, I just rent and use cPanel and Filezilla. Filezilla previously gave full FTP access to the file system on the domain without specification.

Maybe your server administrator or server hosting provider has changed something on the server then?

The server help desk says they have no problem signing in using Filezill with my credentials,

|They suggested I was IP blocked. While I was looking how to reset the IP blocking, I found the configuration wizard in the Settings area. When I ran the wizard, I got my local IP showing, rather than my connection IP.

"PASS 3.42.1
Response: 230 logged on.
Checking for correct external IP address
IP 192.168.1.110 bjc-bgi-b-bba
Response: 510 Mismatch. Your IP is 27.33.243.26, ch-dd-ced-cg
Wrong external IP address
Connection closed"

There suggestion was to "use the Filezilla version 3.28.0 which is found to be working at the moment". that seems an unsubtle way to solve a problem, and the earliest version I have here is 3.35.1.

Do you have any other thoughts??

Zigg

An IP block usually doesn't result in "530 Login authentication failed".

This makes even less sense if they suggest using an older version.

In any case, the login functionality with username/password hasn't, still working the same as it always did.

The network configuration wizards test tests active mode FTP, all of which happens after a successful login. Not related to this problem at all.

These douche bags' suggestion to use an old version with known security issues rather hints to their deficiencies in server security, not allowing modern FTP client to work correctly. :x
