How can we open the local and remote versions of a file at the same time for comparison?

#1 Post by douglerner » 2019-11-11 11:47

I would like to open the local version of a text file and compare it with the remote version and incorporate changes. But if I have the local version open and try to view/edit the remote version it just offers to download and replace the local version, which is the last thing I want to do.

In previous FTP clients I have used it was possible to view and edit the remote file using my local text editor. Is that possible in FileZilla as well?

Thanks,

doug

No, only one version of every filename can be edited at one time, in FileZilla. However, there is a workaround: Edit the remote file in FileZilla and open the local version directly inside your OS.

Thanks. That works.

I don't suppose there is a way of selecting the file in the local pane and doing a "reveal in Finder" on my Mac so I don't have to separately hunt for it, is there?

While no item is selected in the file list, you should be able to right click empty space and use "Open", to open the directory (right-clicking the directory in the directory tree should do the same).
