Cannot start FileZilla since today : EXC_CRASH (Code Signature Invalid)

#1 Post by lgeorget » 2020-01-28 15:11

Hello,

first of all, thank you developers and maintainers of FileZilla for your software. We use it daily and it's perfect for our needs.

We've updated our Mac Mini a few days ago and since today, we are unable to launch FileZilla 3.46.3 on Mac OS Catalina 10.15.2. Mac OS blocks the app from launching and seems to be complaining about an invalid code signature. Downloading and reinstalling the software from the website doesn't help, Mac OS keeps complaining about it and proposes only to dump it to the trash...

Below is the error report that gets generated:

Try removing it complete and also empty the trash. Then reboot, then re-download it.

I've done that. No change. I still get the same error and the app doesn't launch. It looks like the key signing the software has been revoked.

Are you by chance using a third-party program to extract the archive? Make sure to use the built-in functionality of macOS.

I just download the software from this page: https://filezilla-project.org/download.php?platform=osx (currently https://dl3.cdn.filezilla-project.org/c ... 1580234260) and click on the downloaded app. Until today, a window opened to install the app. This is no longer the case, Mac OS shows a warning saying that the app is not secure and ask if it should put it in the trash.

hi

I'd report the same issue on Mac OS 10.14.6 as well.

I also tried newest version , FileZilla_3.46.3 also gave same error (reboot & re-try).

Here are additional information I found in /var/log/system.log

Jan 29 11:10:57 C02XH2MZJG5J com.apple.xpc.launchd[1] (org.filezilla-project.filezilla.27796[1780]): removing service since it exited with consistent failure - OS_REASON_CODESIGNING | When validating /Users/XXX/Applications/FileZilla.app/Contents/MacOS/filezilla:
The code contains a Team ID, but validating its signature failed.
Please check your system log.

I'm having the same problem here. Worked as of a couple days ago, today it macOS says it's malware and asks to move it to the trash.

EDIT: Never mind, downloaded a fresh copy and, even though it's the same version, it works. Spooky.

macOS is doing some weird caching of signature and receipt information. It sometimes does strange things, I have not yet been able to figure out a pattern.

I've retried today and it works. I don't know why or how, I guess Safari was opening the file from its cache instead of downloading it again. I've downloaded the last version, I decompressed it and the app inside opened correctly. The file "sponsored-setup.dmg" included in the archive however gave me the code signing error but it's not the last version of FileZilla client, so I guess it's not relevant.

Anyway... thank you for your help. I'm still clueless about what happened exactly.

I'm having this issue too, using 10.15.3. Is there a fix?

Magically opened with Mac expander.
