ubuntu server 18.04 error 425

Hi guys, i am trying to connect to a filezilla server from ubuntu server. the filezilla server is on a public ip and directly accessible from any windows computer from anywhere. I get error 425 only when im using ubuntu server client to connect. In fact the client actually connects to the server but i cannot GET anything. I looked everywhere i could look and all of my private network settings and firewall seem to be ok, but i still cant figure out what would the problem be. Can anyone assist me? I'd be very grateful!

Which FTP client software (product and version) are you using?

ftp client for ubuntu. the server protocol is ftp. plain

i upgraded my filezilla server today. enabled the tls protocol so now its sftp. i downloaded lftp for ubuntu for client software. I can connect now and it works!

No, it isn't. FTP over TLS is called FTPS. SFTP (file transfer over the SSH2 protocol) is different. FileZilla Server supports only FTPS, but not SFTP.

I apologize for my lack of knowledge. I really need to study about digital signed certificates, CA. I found that lftp works more stable than ftp in linux. Would you confirm that?

It's not only for you, but also for the many people finding this topic after that. Once taught wrong (which is very easy) is very hard to correct later. Thus, it's better to have it correct right away.

As for ftp on Linux, to me, it is not much better as the ftp on Windows. Very primitive, no FTPS support. lftp, on the other hand, is a decent client, we do recommend it for the command-line FTP use case. At GUI FTP clients, we might be a little biased, though.
