My Windows 10 is with colors set to Dark. All my proper desktop programs are in Dark Mode or with the ability to choose colors independently.
Except FileZilla: I use it all the day long, thanks to your excellent work. How can I get a Dark Background in FileZilla?

FileZilla uses the colors the operating system says are the colors to be used. Functionality that goes all the way back to Windows 3.1 and works really well and reliably. Unfortunately Microsoft has removed the color configuration dialog from Windows. When Microsoft added Dark Mode, in their infinite wisdom forget about what their operating system is already capable of and implemented something that would require a custom implementation in every single program to opt into dark mode, despite the proper functionality itself being in Windows ever since.

I understand that, for us developers, it is not conveniant to have to reinvent the wheel.

In cas it may give a direction, may I suggest how KeePass adressed this problem.
They have a .ini file containing the colors code.

I also understand that it would require some extra work, and you may have so much to do already.

I think the white/gray pieces left belong to a FileZilla Theme (here "Classic").
Is there a FileZilla Theme that could make it darker ?

I wrote somewhere, earlier, that using any of the High Contrast themes (except White) will give a dark FileZilla. Example with "High Contrast (Black)":

I knew that. But such a theme is really not nice to use.
I do not want all my apps to look like that.

With the dark theme I use, I'm happy everywhere.
But concerning FileZilla, I just would like to have the background of menus and tabs to be dark.

Hi, I'd like to add my voice asking for a dark mode. I use Windows 10 and Mac OS Catalina in Dark Mode, and FileZilla doesn't seem to understand this. I take the point that if you change the legacy theming settings in Windows you can get something a teensy bit like it. But frankly it's not what I (or many others) are after and offers no help for those of us also using Macs.

If you guys can take a look at building in native (Windows 10/Mac OS) style Dark Mode into FileZilla the world will thank you. Your users are exactly the kinds of people who live in Dark Mode. Thanks guys!

Agree! I'm rocking the free version of FileZilla, but would gladly shell out the 20 clams for a dark theme version. After a little research, I found that WinSCP added dark theme to their UI back in 2002. Interface isn't bad, so I went ahead and switched. As a bonus you also get operability with AmazonS3 and WebDAV.

Just a precision : dark <> black.
What W10 refers as High Contrast theme is black / white, which, apart from been ugly, is less readable than a darkgray theme. For instance, my main background color is #1e1f21.

What I mean with "a true working dark mode"?

• A theme where all parts of FileZilla not just the panes like in https://seclantas-adentro-vinos.com/DarkThemeImage.png but also the ribbons and menus

• A theme that is persistent, even after the pause of the computer (actually, FileZilla returns to white : its the only application to behave like that)

• A theme that is consistent : il I change the Window theme, only certain parts change their background.

CAN WE PLEASE GET AN OFFICIAL DARK MODE FUNCTION!? It's 2020, dark mode isn't just for "Toy apps" as I recall this forum once referenced.

The only "technical limitations" preventing botg from implementing a Dark Mode theme in FileZilla for either Windows 10 or the latest MacOS would have to be on FileZilla's side. I have a program that I use all of the time for renaming movie files. The developers implemented a Dark Mode theme that works on both MacOS and Windows 10. If Dark Mode is enabled on the OS then the app uses Dark Mode. If Dark Mode is disabled on the OS then the app uses the non-Dark Mode.

I have several apps that function this way, so calling it a "technical limitation" or a "framework limitation" doesn't work. Not unless you mean a technical/framework limitation on FileZilla's end, anyway. And if that limitation is on FileZilla's end then botg and/or the FileZilla developers need to be working towards correcting that.

Let me put things clear : if you don't provide a true dark mode soon, I'll stop using FileZilla.
It's the only professional application I still have that has no true dark mode.

Let me thank you for thirteen years of intensive use of FileZilla. It helped a lot.
Sorry that my eyes cannot continue without a dark mode.
I had also another program, very old, RanSack, that helped me to search in my disk (as I don't like Windows search) with no dark mode.

By chance, I found a program that does both : search in my local disk and FTP with a true dark mode.
Now, every application is in Dark Mode. A true relief.
