FileZilla 3.46.0 - Disable Update not working

#1 Post by franc » 2020-06-17 05:29

Hallo

I am with FileZilla 3.46.0 because I have a MacBook Pro from Mid 2009 with only OS 10.11.6 (Upgrade not possible anymore, but the MacBook is still good working).
So I found that the 3.46 is the last working FileZilla Client for me.

I disabled Updates in Settings but each start I get this Nag-Screen-like Diaolog that an update is available but cannot be retrieved, grrr.

How can I reset this and never show it again?

Thanks for hints.

frank

PS.: I tried to open an issue in trac but the registration is not possible, the confirmation email is not sent (tried it several times, looked in spam etc.).

You need to update to a more modern operating system. macOS 10.11 is outdated and contains a plethora of known, unfixed security vulnerabilities.

The security issues of OS 10.11.6 was really not my question.

Is there no way to forbid FileZilla this update?
Why it is ignoring my setting?

Maybe then with the firewall (I have HandsOff), forbid the update server address?

FileZilla doesn't check for updates when the checking for updates is disabled. It just tells you to update to a more recent version, because there's always a more recent version after some months.

Is there a way to disable this? It seems not possible then with a firewall, if it is just a timer :(

Anyway, with this feature, what happens to the last version of FileZilla, when one day development is stopped (as in many many opensource projects a matter of fact)? Then this will be a real bug ;)

It's an "obsoletion" timer and works without Internet access. 3.44.2 was the last version without this timer.

Downgrading is not a supported use-case. You have to update to the most recent version. If you don't want to update, don't use FileZilla at all.
