I find transfer failures between a PC Filezilla server & Mac os Cient occur when the filenames on the server have any funcky characters...
Characters like parentheses or nordic "O" or "U" with the double dot over it, or really anything other than a dash or underscore, trips the server into not downloading the file...
Is this fixable, or is there a work around that anyone knows about ?
Many thanks, Tom...

Define "funky". Unicode characters should be absolutely no problem, provided you are using the very latest version of both Client and Server.

Using UTF-8, these characters should not pose any problem.
What is the used FTP server software? Assuming FileZilla Server 0.9.60, that one is fully UTF-8 capable.
What is the used FTP client software? Assuming FileZilla 3.49.1, fully UTF-8 capable, too.
We cannot guarantee that any other FTP server or client (like the native commandline one) supports UTF-8. Without full support for UTF-8, characters other than English letters, numbers and a few select other ones (effectively, the first half of the US-ASCII charset) are simply not supported.
FTP is very old and started out with English-only support. UTF-8 is the only official FTP extension to make other characters work. Character Set

Different normalization forms? Make sure all systems use the same normalization form.
