Problems with deleting file directory

#1 Post by DennisOlof » 2021-03-18 21:37

Hi.

I have had some issues with deleting file directory on FTP servers with FileZilla. Sometimes is has failed because of hidden files or other issues with formatting and none English language etc. It also takes forever to delete a directory that has hundreds of subdirectories. It looks like the client has to go through all the file etc before it does delete them ?

If I use FlashFXP that was my main FTP program before moving over to FileZilla, it seems tell the server to just delete the directory and anything in it. It is much faster and I manage to delete the directory I could not remove with FileZilla.

Is it possible to add this feature to FileZilla, so you could select it under settings for the program. I think it is called recursive file directory delete, or something like that.

:-)

Server-side recursive deletion is not part of the protocol specification.

Ok. Is that something that IS supported on some FTP servers only ?

Anyway the problem is there, sometimes I can not delete a directory with plenty of files
and sub-directories. I have to use another FTP program to solve that issue.

AFAIK, the exact behavior is undefined in the specs. Servers might support it, but they don't have to. Thus, FileZilla cannot rely on that and just plays it safe.
