Can't open remote directories

v3.53.1, Windows7. For years FileZilla would stay connected all day while transferring, opening both local and remote folders no problem. But a few times in the past months my server was blocking our site and the admin said FileZilla was at fault and had me change some settings. Since then it will stay connected all day and I can still upload and download but after a few minutes I can no longer open remote directories and sub-directories. I then have to close FileZilla and start it again to be able to open remote directories. Has anyone else experienced this? Any suggestions for a fix?
