FileZilla won't log in going through my wireless router

#1 Post by SergioQ » 2021-05-14 03:07

Hello,

I used to be able to log in via FileZilla from the outside, so using my ISP provided IP address. Then my router reset itself and I can't figure out what I have to set.

My setup on FileZilla has always been:

Protocol FTP
port 45000
Use ExplicitFTP over TLS if available
logon type Normal
Server type Autodetect
Transfer mode Default
On my router I have ports 20,21, and 45000 forwarded to my particular server.

But when I use the outside address I keep getting:
Status: Retrieving directory listing of "/home/sergio"...
Status: Server sent passive reply with unroutable address. Using server address instead.
Command: LIST
Error: The data connection could not be established: ETIMEDOUT - Connection attempt timed out
Error: Connection timed out after 20 seconds of inactivity
Error: Failed to retrieve directory listing
Status: Disconnected from server
Can anyone tell me what I've missed in resetting up my NAT router?

Please have a look at our Network Configuration guide. You can test your server on https://ftptest.net/

Seems, I had this problem three years ago and ask and found the answer here. I totally forgot. I just refollowed this link and it worked.

I still don't like using a range of 40,000 - 50,000 for ports though. Would like to narrow that down.

The number of ports needs at the very least be larger than the amount of files and directories you can possibly transfer in 4 minutes.
