Cannot upload the private key

#1 Post by bartoszpolandkatowice » 2021-05-25 13:09

Dear All,
I'm having probles with uploading the privte key I generated with PUTTY.
Simply I generate and save the private key. Then I click Edit > Setting > SFTP.
I choose "Add key file" then I select the key, click upload and nothing happens. I should see the key in the list but it doesn't happen.
Any ideas?

Thx in advance!

Try the previous version of PuTTY.

I have the exact same problem. When attempting to select the private key, nothing happens. No error message. I cannot save, cannot connect. Set up Filezilla with key access many times before and never had this problem. Even right clicking and copy/pasting the direct file path, cannot save, no error. Want to throw computer against wall.

Hi, I encountered the same problem today. I generated new SSH keys with PuTTY and tried to import them in FileZilla with no luck.

Tried on Windows 10
FileZilla version: 3.54.1
PuTTY version: 0.75

What version of PuTTY should I try then?

I can confirm it works fine with PuTTY 0.74

I had exactly the same issue. FileZilla 3.54.1 / PuTTYgen 0.75.

Seems that the issue is a new private key format (PPK v3) in use starting with PuTTY 0.75.
FileZilla does not (yet?) support this new key format, so you need to force the format back to PPK v2.

Instructions for doing so can be found here: https://ccportal.ims.ac.jp/en/node/2914

In breif, select "Parameters for saving key files" from the "Key" menu in PuTTYgen and tell it to use PPK v2, not 3.
