Password saving disabled

Using macOS 11.3, Filezilla version 3.54.0
I tried to add a new site to the site manager, but it will not let me save a password.
Often this is because of a Preferences setting, however mine is already set to allow passwords.
So why am I only allowed to be prompted to enter a password each time? The sites I previously created, which also do not SHOW the password box still seem to have the password saved, as they connect.
What's going on?
