new computer log in help?

#1 Post by diablonf » 2022-04-19 07:42

Hi,

Probably an easy question for many of you, but Im, lost!!

Ive just changed computers, we use FZ to upload artwork to a website.

I do not have contact with the person who set this up, but have been uploading for years, no problem.

Now with the new computer, I need some advice how to connect.

IE what do I put in the Host, Client boxes, I do have a password!

Any advice gratefully received

Is the old computer still around? Normally, you are supposed to export the sites and settings there (menu File - Export...), move the resulting XML file to the new machine, and then re-importing them here (File - Import...).

If the old machine is gone, so is all your site login data. You need to ask the server support people (usually hosting support) for assistance. We only provide the FileZilla tool itself and do not know about anything you stored there. It is a good old standalone application, without any fancy cloud stuff at all. None of your site data leaves the local PC unless you're exporting it (see above).

Boco,
Thanks for taking time to reply, So in Layman's terms 'server support' would be the people hosting the website??
Thanks again,
BR

Yes, the hosting support is a good start. They should at least be able to forward you to the right people. Note that in most cases, they will not reveal your current login data, but will generate a new login.

Thanks, TBH, I don't mind what they do, as long as I can get access to be able to upload etc.
Many Thanks

Hello,

We recently got a new laptop but we do not have any of the Host, Username or password information. I created an account just to be able to send this. Is it possible to obtain that information?

From the old machine, maybe? This information is stored only locally on the client, we don't get it, as does nobody else.

Without access to the old machine (old user profile), you need to contact each server administrator and ask.

I still can access the old laptop. but when we log in its automatically saved and nothing shows up. I'm not sure who the server administrator is.

Start FileZilla on the old machine, use menu File - Export... to save the chosen things to a file, which you can transfer to the new machine and then use for importing the data into the new FileZilla (File - Import...).
