Folder Issues

Hello,
I've been experiencing some issues with folders since the last update.

In short, FileZilla is refusing to upload/ download folders and their contents. It will scan them and then do nothing.

I have fixed this by downgrading my filezilla but I would obviously prefer to be on the latest edition.

I'm running the most up to date version of Windows 10.

What does it say in the message log?

Please note that we cannot support third-party builds. Contact your third-party vendor for assistance with the third-party build.

Either use the binaries provided by us, or compile directly from source as a proper program, none of this flatpak rubbish.

Do you have directory listing filters enabled to filter out all files?

Everything is on the default settings - nothing has been altered. Been using these settings for 7 years.

I'm unsure why you think that flatpak is rubbish. It's popular, and growing in popularity, for good reason.

The problem is that as it stands, Filezilla isn't available through a PPA, except where the distribution provides it, so on a distribution, it runs rapidly out of date. To have to repeatedly download the tar, extract it, save it to a system folder, create suitable links to a system folder in the path…

This isn't user-friendly. It might be fine (albeit a pain) for technical users, but your "average" user wouldn't have the faintest idea how to go about this, and indeed might not even have the relevant permissions to do so. It means that when I set up someone on their computer, they won't receive updates.

It is also non-standard. This isn't how other popular packages distribute their wares.

The only problem with flatpak, which I haven't yet solved, is how to open the editor. If I find a solution, I'll post back here.

"It's popular". Appeal to popularity. What could possibly go wrong here.

Well, whether or not you agree with it, it's what it is. It would be like refusing to support MacOS if you didn't like it, because "What could possibly go wrong here."

In any case, you don't need to support flatpak. You could try using the older, much more popular, standard method of having a PPA. That would be a huge help to us all.

I said that I'd post a solution should I find it. Flatpak has an official method to exit from the sandbox where required.

My solution is specifically for gedit, but it can be adapted for any editor.

I hope that this helps others.
